NOW WE’RE A GOING GREEN EVENT!

2018 will go down in history as the start of a new environmental awareness of the Giro delle Dolomiti.

2018 will go down in history as the start of a new environmental awareness of the Giro delle Dolomiti. During the 42nd edition especially the participants will recognize this commitment because a wide part of our fleet will drive on electric power. Sportler, one of the stage partners of the Giro, will provide a Tesla as a vehicle, but particularly Alperia will provide several vehicles, preserving participants and environment! Alperia is a new local entrant and we are pleased to call this big energy company from South Tyrol our supporter.
Furthermore, we will provide some omnibuses for the 4th stage (Stelvio – Alpecin) to get all participants as environmentally friendly as possible to the start. As the buses, as past experiences have shown, won’t be enough, we kindly ask you to provide your own cars and take other participants for a ride. We will be logistically available in order to render this as satisfying as possible.

This are only a few, but very important environmentally friendly provisions – but in return we can call ourselves a GOING GREEN EVENT!

“The aim of the initiative GreenEvent is to organize events as environmentally friendly and resource-saving als possible”, tells Silke Raffeiner, who’s responsible for the project at the Environmental Agency of South Tyrol. “In order to obtain the certification “going GreenEvent” or “GreenEvent”, the organizers should implement a number of measures from different fields. Promotion material is printed only in the amount actually needed and preferably on recycled paper, the decoration material will be reused, cleaning agents and water are used consciously. Waste prevention and careful waste separation are particularly important. As to the food, the use of reusable dishes and of local, seasonal, organic and fair-trade products and a wider choice of vegetarian dishes help to protect the environment and the climate. From 2013 to the end of 2017, 231 events have obtained the certification “going GreenEvent” or “GreenEvent”. Fortunately, these events every year are complemented by further events, like the “Giro delle Dolomiti”. The organizers show an excellent commitment and accept also additional organizational and sometimes even financial efforts for their GreenEvent.”
